As data centers scale to meet global digital demands, the need for safer, more efficient server rack transport solutions has never been greater. Traditional handling methods—like manually moving heavy racks with unstable casters—pose serious risks to both employees and assets. Jtec Industries, in partnership with the Open Compute Project (OCP) and leading hyperscalers, conducted ergonomic testing to analyze and solve these challenges. The study found that standard push/pull forces required to move 3,000-pound loaded racks far exceeded NIOSH-recommended safety thresholds, highlighting a critical gap in current data center logistics practices.
This Case Study present’s Jtec’s testing and results. We developed a suite of material handling innovations—like the Powered Data Walkie, Manual Data Jack, and Powered Data Cart—designed to improve safety, streamline workflow, and minimize risk. These data server transport solutions not only protect valuable IT infrastructure but also align with continuous improvement goals by increasing throughput and reducing injury-related downtime. For data center managers, engineers, and facility planners searching for reliable server rack movement solutions that prioritize employee safety and operational efficiency, Jtec’s proven systems offer a modern, scalable answer.
